The 23 things experience.

As someone who does not have a PC etc at home the 23 Things programme did shed some light on aspects of the Web (Facebook,Twitter, Blogging etc) that are constantly in the public domain these days. Indeed I saw a headline that this general election's MPs will be the Web 2.0 generation and actually had some idea of what that meant! I enjoyed the blogging generally and was taken by the range of Podcasts from music and the Beebs broadcasts to sets of lectures from some of our readers. Wikis were my low point. I couldn't really understand what I was meant to be doing which was very frustrating.

Photos and Gadgets

Well I seem to have added some pictures on a local/seasonal transition theme on my photostream and added them to my blog. The harsh winter, my sightings of egrets over the Easter weekend (a pair on Good Friday) and the swifts and swallows I'm hoping may appear with this coming weekends high pressure, form the theme. I added my delicious bookmarks and Worldcat as my gadgets on i-google, searching for one of our readers entries on the latter database.

Google Document and Think Free.

A distinct holiday feel to Upper Reading Room today. Things finally seem to have slowed down for the Easter hols. So more time to explore Google Document and ThinkFree. Typically it has been queries all the way since I wrote that. For Google Document I exprimented with text from the DNB featuring the Earl of Berkshire's donation in 1609 of 20 oak trees for the building of the Bodleian while sharing a question about the grand prix with my colleague Sally. My ThinkFree experiment was with text from a book about colleague Ernesto's local pilgrimage to Compostela. I was also able to remind myself to buy some Hoover bags as a note and upload a little reading room notice.

Wiki Week

Well I've had a good look at the Wiki and Wikipedia. Not quite sure why but I really couldn't get my head round the whole Wiki thing. What did interest me was the social networking report to cabinet on the wiki as it shed some light on why we're doing the whole 23 Things project. Checked up the wikipedia entry for the village I'm from and living in at the moment. Not too much controversy there although there is room for some more details (only one of the two brooks and the minor one at that is mentioned, no record of the world record for milk production by an individual cow back in the 70's and from the same era the womens water skiing world champion). Hope the next things are less frustrating!

Twitter Week.

The end of Hilary term and the prospect of some easing of the carnage of the busiest time of year in Upper reserve is a nice one. Roll on Easter. A wet Friday night seems to be dampening any revels out on Catte Street. I can see the benefit of Twitter in a work context in the way facts and observations have to be summarized in areas of particular interest.

Social Networking Week.

Thursday was Facebook day and I found that I was re-discovering a membership. That was handy for signing up to the 'Save 6 Music' Facebook petition. Going to have to start listening to it again while I'm doing the ironing. I was very impressed by the Education Library page. Obviously well used and with lots of useful information. LinkedIn today and I think I successfully made contact with Simon in Lower Camera.

Podcasts and YouTube.

The Podcast and YouTube tasks have been diverting. The Archers at 2 in the reading room on Podcast was different as was listening to one of our readers talk about his childhood on the University site. YouTube featured a walk of the Chiltern Way and a video of the comings and goings on Clapham Junction by the said walker (a bit disappointing there were no more walks). The Imperial College YouTube site featured Boris Johnson opening a £160m restoration project.

St Giles Cafe. Delicious Fry Up.

8.20 on a Friday evening on the graveyard shift in Upper Camera. Sustained by the lunchtime fry up as mentioned in the title. Think i've managed to bookmark items on libraries, local government and the weather and I'll soon be on first name terms with Phil Bradley whoever he is. Right must do some replacing and a count!

Flicker Week.

Well I think I managed to do something with my mouse cartoon. Love it. Really funny when it moves. Had a few cookie problems so I'll look out for those next week. A tiring week in Upper this week. Hoping I'll be more focused next week. At least the snowdrops are up and the aconites have been flowering for weeks!

Feeds?

Ok so by luck more than judgement I have some feeds. Nice to see 'Adlestrop' on Sully's Blog. Never fails to get me welling up. Blundered upon the village on an Evenlode based walk and read the poem in the bus stop. Remember thinking it must be a lot quieter than in Edward Thomas' day. It was late summer, early autumn I suppose.
